    Sugar is just one of a whole set of what Jason Vale (see 'juicemaster') calls ‘life-style’ diseases, which seem to me to be part of a much wider set of ‘low-knowledge’ memes and temes (see https://www.ted.com/talks/susan_blackmore_on_memes_and_temes)

    Vale (and an increasing array of others) advocates ‘low human intervention cuisine’ - simply, we can now afford to cut back on our applications of knowledge and smart processing, and re-introduce low-knowledge, low-pre-processed life styles. It doesn't mean we have to throw away our mobile phones, it just means we can afford to cut back on some of the ‘smart’ stuff which is turning out to be not so smart after all.

    Finally, a full version the paper on Synaesthesia and Learning.
    {LEON_a_00937-Williams-web copy.pdf}
    It deals with quite a few issues, but the main thrust of the paper (based on Ramachandran's work, and on case studies of ours on Montessori and MEDIATE) is that the origin on abstraction is deeply embedded in cross-sensory perception, and the path to abstraction in learning can be mapped out - and operationalised - from sensory exploration, given well designed and constructed interactive learning environments.
    As it happens, it both explains and endorses the work of Montessori, which for me has been a long and fascinating journey, since my first involvement with Montessori education in the mid-1980's
