Sugar is just one of a whole set of what Jason Vale (see 'juicemaster') calls ‘life-style’ diseases, which seem to me to be part of a much wider set of ‘low-knowledge’ memes and temes (see https://www.ted.com/talks/susan_blackmore_on_memes_and_temes)

Vale (and an increasing array of others) advocates ‘low human intervention cuisine’ - simply, we can now afford to cut back on our applications of knowledge and smart processing, and re-introduce low-knowledge, low-pre-processed life styles. It doesn't mean we have to throw away our mobile phones, it just means we can afford to cut back on some of the ‘smart’ stuff which is turning out to be not so smart after all.
